This report presents the results of the performance audit of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, with assistance from MGT of America, has undertaken a comprehensive performance audit of the NCDOT to accomplish the following goals: Provide an objective analysis of the Departments operations. Assess whether the Departments structure, functions and processes are meeting public needs. Evaluate the Departments programs, functions and operating procedures. Recommend changes to improve operational efficiency and responsiveness. Communicate sensitive issues and complex solutions in a way the public can understand and accept. Our recommendations are included in the report.
