Description of Position:Minimum Education & Experience for Financial and Investigative Divisions: Minimum Education & Experience for Performance Division:
This position is an entry-level professional auditor position. The goal of this position is to gain audit experience through being involved in the full scope of an audit. Staff Auditor I’s are guided through audits under supervision, direction, coaching, and training. Within the first year of employment, Staff Auditor I’s will understand accounting, compliance, and auditing standards.Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Continued Audit and Professional Development

  • Functions independently on familiar audit issues and assignments
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Manages timelines for self and the team

 

Description of Position:Minimum Education & Experience for Financial and Investigative Divisions:Minimum Education & Experience for Performance Division:
This position has the responsibility for completing and participating in a wide range of audits. Staff Auditor II’s, are required to complete more complex assignments, either through a team effort or independently. In this position audit findings and recommendations are communicated clearly in writing and orally. There are also instances, where Staff Auditor II’s are put in charge of smaller audits.Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience in auditing/accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience in auditing/accounting or program evaluation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Audit Competency to Audit Leadership

  • Provides significant assistance to lessen manager burden
  • Takes initiative and works independently
  • Develops and coaches Staff Auditors
  • Identifies audit issues and draws supported conclusions

This position entails advanced and specialized auditing work, which include supervisory duties involving audit completions. Senior Auditors serve as assistant supervisors during the largest and most complex audits completed by the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor. Work in this position involves direction and coordination of Staff Auditor I and II’s.Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 3 years of experience in auditing/accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 3 years of experience in auditing/accounting or program evaluation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The primary purpose of an Audit Manager is to have full responsibility over the establishment of both long-term and short-term goals and objectives for the Audit Division. The Audit Manager formulates audit programs and policies, along with the overall direction of audit staffing training, and development. Audit Manager’s must hold a high level of independent decision-making skills through exercising managerial functions over multiple audit teams.Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 5 years of experience in auditing/accounting, one of which must have been functioning as an audit lead or supervisor; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 5 years of experience in auditing/accounting or program evaluation, one of which must have been functioning as an audit lead or supervisor; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Leading with Integrity
  • Manages metrics, staff time, audit clients, and audit planning

Description of Position:Minimum Education & Experience for Financial and Investigative Divisions:Minimum Education & Experience for Performance Division:
The Senior Audit Manager is responsible for planning and managing a number of audits under the supervision of the appropriate Deputy State Auditor. Senior Audit Managers must provide quality professional services to auditees, provide oversight on a number of audits, and apply an understanding of the audit’s systems and procedures. The Senior Audit Manager also ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are followed by audit staff.

Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in auditing/accounting, including three years functioning as an audit lead or supervisor; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

AND

The Assistant State Audit Manager position requires a Certified Public Accountant license issued by the State of North Carolina or eight years of auditing under the Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book).

Bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in auditing/accounting program evaluation, including three years serving in a role as an audit lead or supervisor; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

AND

The Assistant State Audit Manager position requires a Certified Public Accountant license issued by the State of North Carolina or eight years of auditing under the Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book).
