Two Department employees overstated miles driven by 6,132 miles, resulting in excessive or unnecessary costs of about $3,817. Assigning state cars to the top travelers would save the Department about $13,400 a year. A random sample of 45 travel invoices found 21 instances of noncompliance with state or Department travel rules. The Department agreed with our findings and recommendations. These items are described in the Audit Findings, Recommendations, and Responses sections of this report.
