On October 15, 1999, we received an allegation through the State Auditor's Hotline that the Maintenance Mechanic at the Department of Correction's (DOC) Moore County Sewing Plant in Carthage, NC was commuting to work in a state vehicle. Our investigation found that the DOC Maintenance Mechanic used a state-owned vehicle for commuting without prior approval. He also used the vehicle for personal use. The findings and the response from the Department of Correction are included in this report.
