George H. Walls Jr., a retired Marine brigadier general, was named as Chief Deputy State Auditor on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 by State Auditor Ralph Campbell Jr. "We are indeed fortunate to have a person of George Walls' experience to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of the State Auditor," Campbell said. "His military service and his work in the University of North Carolina system have given him extensive experience in managing complex and diverse organizations, experience that will come in handy here.'' "I am honored to have been selected by Mr. Campbell to fill the position as his Chief Deputy,'' Walls said. "I look forward to working with the staff and other agencies to fulfill the mission of the Auditor's Office.''
