Data Science Internships

Do you want to learn the importance of Data Science within a government agency?
The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor is searching for an intern to serve on our Data Science Team. Within this internship you will gain hands-on experience through directly working on projects assigned to the Data Science Team.
As a Data Science Intern, you will work on projects that leverage advanced analytical techniques to extract meaningful insights from complex and diverse data sets. You’ll assist in planning and executing analyses that address regulatory requirements, audit objectives, or strategic initiatives. In addition, you’ll prepare internal reports to clearly communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders, ensuring data-driven reports and decisions are well-informed. These projects will give you hands-on experience applying statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization methods to solve real-world challenges and support impactful outcomes.
Qualifications
- Current graduate student pursuing a degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Experience with SQL, Python, and data-based Python packages (such as Pandas and NumPy)
- Experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into data analysis processes preferred but not required
- Experience with conducting research using data (such as writing a data-based thesis or performing as a research assistant) preferred but not required
