State Auditor’s Office Seeks Public Comment on Modernization of State’s Election Management System, Campaign Finance Software

The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor (OSA), in conjunction with the North Carolina State Board of Elections, has launched a new public comment portal to gather suggestions on the modernization of North Carolina’s election management system and campaign finance software.

The current system was developed in 1998 and coordinates statewide elections processes, voter registration, and reporting of election night and canvassed results. OSA and the State Board plan a modernization effort of the database, application, and reporting components. Prior to issuing a Request for Proposal for this effort, OSA and the State Board are issuing a Request for Information for any interested parties to submit comments.

“North Carolina voters are the ones casting ballots each year. As the State Board of Elections moves forward with modernization efforts, it’s only right that the public has a voice on this matter,” said State Auditor Dave Boliek. “Having transparency is important for voter confidence, voter participation, and election integrity. I encourage all North Carolinians to submit their feedback on best approaches to these fundamental systems.”

The Request for Information provides members of the public with the ability to submit their thoughts, comments, ideas, and feedback on North Carolina’s election software. The software is managed by the State Board, and OSA is charged with directing and supervising all budgeting functions of the State Board.
