State Auditor Boliek Statement on Local Government Commission Taking Financial Control Action

Raleigh, N.C.
Oct 7, 2026

State Auditor Dave Boliek released the following statement on the Local Government Commission voting to take financial control over the Town of Ronda and the Town of Rowland:

"Yesterday, I joined State Treasurer Brad Briner and other members of the Local Government Commission and voted in favor of the LGC taking financial control over two towns in North Carolina: Ronda in Wilkes County and Rowland in Robeson County. This vote came after warnings, testimony, and a report from the State Auditor’s Office on the Town of Ronda’s cash flow crisis.

"Over the past 22 months, the State Auditor’s Office has detailed financial governance issues at the municipal level across North Carolina. A takeover is a last resort measure that is rarely taken, but in these instances, it was the responsible thing to do for taxpayers in North Carolina."
